Last week we were excited to announce the release of our revMobile pre-alpha for the Apple iPhone, and from the response we’ve had over the last few days, so are the Rev community: we’ve had some great and helpful feedback from users getting to grips with our new mobile development platform.
revMobile of course allows mobile development for several platforms, including Windows Mobile and Nokia Maemo, however the feedback from our community was that the platform they were most excited about was the Apple iPhone, which has been evidenced by some of the reactions we’ve had to the pre-alpha! Apple’s higher standard of software and hardware design has clearly revolutionized the smartphone market across the world – and the Apple ecosystem looks to become even more appealing for developers with the introduction of the Apple iPad.
Our Youtube video “Create an iPhone App in 3 hours 16 minutes” has now hit nearly 11,000 views at time of writing, and has been re-posted on tech news sites and blogs across the world, leading to a lot of new interest in the Rev platform. We’ve been covered by MacNN and The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW), and it’s been great to see the buzz generated by the unique offer of being able to develop for the iPhone without learning Objective-C – one of the greatest barriers to entry in creating software for the iPhone.
Today we’ve released the third edition of the iPhone pre-alpha, including new features for display of Unicode text and non-ASCII characters, an expanded and improved handbook, and plenty of bug and stability fixes. If you already have revMobile, you should receive an e-mail with the details shortly – if you don’t have revMobile, you can find out more about it here.
We’ve had great fun at RunRev HQ developing for the iPhone, and to see that our community are getting excited by the opportunity is very rewarding. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
