In March 2010, we conducted an in-depth survey of our customers to better understand their use of LiveCode and the advantages the platform brings to their development projects.

In addition to information about their specific development work and timelines, we asked about their experience using other languages, and how LiveCode compares. The results were astounding.

And while not a complete surprise given what we already know about LiveCode’s performance and strengths, the amount of time savings over more traditional development languages was quite eye-opening.

Here’s what we found:

• The survey included input from 670 developers, with 415 development projects currently in play.
• On average, developers saved nearly two months — 51 days — in development time using LiveCode over Java, Objective-C, BASIC and C/C++.
• Developers used 47% less time over traditional development environments.
• One-third of all projects simply would not have been viable without LiveCode.

Here’s what we heard:

• “LiveCode is very easy to use and learn. I created my first Android application in just four days without prior knowledge of LiveCode.”
• “This tool is so intuitive and at such a high level that it tackles major projects with ease without the requirement of the learning curve of Objective C or even BASIC.”
• “If it weren’t for LiveCode I would have had to use two different programming platforms to deliver my solution. Other cross platform tools were simply lacking significantly in functionality. LiveCode made it a breeze.”
• “With traditional coding practices, the project would have been abandoned.”
• “Very rapid application development AND upgraded features made it easier with LiveCode than (what would have been) possible with C/C++/Basic/Java.”
• “This was my first project using LiveCode, I would probably not have done the project if I had to use Java or VB.”

We’re thrilled to know that LiveCode is delivering exactly the benefits we designed it to deliver, and we appreciate the thoughtful input our community provides to help us crystalize the benefits further.
