I started with RunRev a little over a month ago as Marketing and Communications Analyst.  Let me tell you, I couldn’t have started at a busier or more interesting time for the company.  LiveCode for Android had just been pre-released to huge success and resoundingly positive reviews.  Today we launch LiveCode 4.6, the culmination of not just a month’s work for the marketing department, but many many more months’ effort from all the guys (and girl) in the development team.

Check our ‘What’s new in 4.6′ page to learn more about all the new features the development team have been able to put into this release!

LiveCode 4.6 – 20 new mobile features: better data management, better multimedia, better apps.

The area that has fascinated me the most since starting with RunRev is the rapidly expanding mobile space.  This really is a marketers dream… a vibrant, much talked about, fast paced market that calls to mind the phrase “to the victor go the spoils”.    For the past month I’ve watched with a growing sense of pride and excitement as the developer community, interested educators and eager hobbyists alike have all taken the tools we’ve given them with LiveCode and deployed hugely impressive apps to the app store.  With LiveCode we can all be the victors together, and we can all reap the rewards.

LiveCode 4.6 builds on this success by bring 20 new features to make even better apps.  Amongst these features are native text controls to give your apps that iOS look and feel; support for SQLite so that you can manage data in your apps; native video control and multi-channel combined to elevate your apps to a new level of multi media interaction.

LiveCode 4.6 for desktop – bringing you the top ten most requested desktop refinements.

Since starting with RunRev I’ve been most impressed with how closely our dev team work with the developer community.    The Dev team keep a constant eye on the Rev Forums, mailing lists and developer program, answering any queries that anyone has and fixing any problems.

LiveCode 4.6 grew out of this interaction.  The reason I’m happy to sell LiveCode as having the top 10 most requested desktop refinements is because I’ve been in those meetings where the team have debated how to make LiveCode do what the customer needs it to do and not what we think it should do.  So LiveCode 4.6 now handles support for very large images on the Mac because our customers have been asking for this.  We’ve improved our encryption support in response to our developers’ need to protect their customers and their customers’ data.  We were asked for easier, quicker ways to make great interfaces so we’ve brought you the ability to snapshot objects with (and without) graphic effects and blending.
