It’s been a great week for us here at RunRev.  The much anticipated LiveCode 4.6 was launched last Tuesday and we could not have asked for a better response.  We’ve had journal entries and blog posts, people have liked us on Facebook, customers have emailed with feedback and there’s been tweeting galore!

With LiveCode 4.6  we wanted to keep our customers on the cutting edge of the exciting mobile space. We’ve packed in over 20 new iOS features to make sure that our developers stay ahead of the game.    I’ll let @oab from Twitter give you his feedback, because I honestly couldn’t have put it better myself:

“@runev I have to say v 4.6 is 100 times better for mobile development.  Amazed how polished this version really is.  Bravo work guys.”

It’s not just about mobile of course.   We worked really hard to bring you more than a dozen desktop refinements too, and overall LiveCode 4.6  had more than 100 bug fixes too.   We know how important it is to be cross platform these days, so our releases always bring the very best we can give you on all the platforms we support.

Stephen Barncard, another LiveCode customer, sums it up nicely:

“A lot of stuff is going on under the hood.  Stability and bug fixes are always a big feature. Improvements to mobile eventually work their way back to the desktop (and plugin and server), as the team are revising major parts of the engine as they go along, so we developers can truly ‘write once, use anywhere.”

What our developers have been most pleased about is that we delivered on our promise to bring them the features and changes that they had asked for.    “Ask and you shall receive” says Edward Cawley, LiveCode customer.  “Loaded 4.6 today and my problems were solved. … Thanks to the whole team.”

The successful launch of LiveCode 4.6 wasn’t the only great thing to happen this week.    Even before we brought out an updated version, LiveCode was named Best Cross-Platform Mobile IDE  in a survey by Mike Riley of DevProConnections.      What Mike listed as the best features of LiveCode are:

  • excellent platform-specific support from a single code base
  • adequate documentation and active, company-sponsored forum participation
  • intuitive, easy-to-use form design tools

We’re thrilled with this accolade, and proud of the respect  we’ve earned by listening to our developers and by enhancing our products based on their feedback.

“Over the years I’ve gotten more and more confident in Kevin and his team in providing the continuation and expanding of a platform that works for me and many others.”  Stephen Barncard, LiveCode customer tells us.    “I trust these guys to stay on top of the changing landscape and to keep improving the core product.  I see a great future for this company and I’m here for the long haul.”

And that’s exactly how we see things, and precisely what we want to bring with LiveCode 4.6. We’re working together with our developers to bring mutual gains over the long haul.  Along the way do we hope to gain more titles, win more prizes and garner more media reviews?  Sure we do!  But it’s the relationship with our developers that matters to us most.  It’s their feedback that drives us forward.

The LiveCode Developer Program

Are you a professional developer?  Our LiveCode Developer Program gives you close contact with our dev team and executive management via the LiveCode Developer Program Mailing List.  This is the best place to give us your feedback and to get your questions answered the guys in the Dev Team.

We’ll give you access to the pre-release version of whichever LiveCode deployment licenses you hold and listen to your feedback when making changes and corrections to the full product.

We want LiveCode to do what our customers want it to do, not what we want it to do.  On the list they’re already chatting about what’s coming next  – the  LiveCode Developer Program is the best way to stay informed and get your input heard.
