Xamarin, the Microsoft-owned cross-platform development software provider, has announced the launch of a new mobile certification program.
The Certified Mobile Professional qualification comes through the company’s Xamarin University, which offers tutorials and learning on a variety of operating systems and languages, including Android, iOS, and C#.
Naturally, these courses are not entirely altruistic. Xamarin’s platform – and indeed its mission – are based around C#, with the company’s platform page making the point that “anything you can do in Objective-C, Swift or Java, you can do in C#.” The University also features Microsoft-based courses around Azure.
The latest mobile professional certification is for developers “to demonstrate fundamental competency in Xamarin mobile development,” as the company put it. Candidates can take the initial test and then progress to the next tier Xamarin Certified Mobile Developer. The latter goes through more advanced coursework, including deeper patterns, complex debugging, and performance tuning.
“We’ve trained thousands of developers to use .NET to build mobile applications for iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile in the three years since Xamarin University launched,” wrote Mark Smith, Microsoft training and curriculum director. “Many of these developers chose to become Xamarin Certified Mobile Developers by taking 20 selected courses with our live instructors and passing a challenging exam to demonstrate their expertise in cross-platform mobile development using Xamarin.
“We’re proud of all our certified developers, as we well know the dedication and time required to earn certification.”
