We are very excited to announce that East Lothian Council has adopted LiveCode with plans to deploy across all secondary schools in the Edinburgh region. This new initiative is one of the larger deployments of LiveCode in an education environment! With LiveCode, the East Lothian education authority plans to revolutionise the way computer science is taught in secondary schools by ensuring students gain a practical insight into computer studies.

East Lothian is a high-achieving education authority, with students equalling or exceededing national averages for qualifications gained in 2011 (per the Scottish Qualifications Authority). School administrators want to ensure students acquire practical skills that can be used in a commercial environment, and therefore ways to enhance their computing courses.

Jack Tennent, a computer studies teacher at Knox Academy and Preston Lodge High School, discovered LiveCode and saw its potential for helping teachers develop new course materials and teaching aids, and also for students to create apps and learn software development. He said, “The familiarity and comfort factor that young people have with mobile and computing devices means that any computer science course has to be that much more appealing and engaging if it is to be taught successfully.” And LiveCode fits the bill.
