“If I had to pick a favourite … I’d case my vote for RunRev’s LiveCode”

–          Mike Riley, DevProConnections

Welcoming me as I arrived into the office this morning was a boon for LiveCode.   Just after the release of LiveCode 4.6 (and all the media excitement that went with it), my week got even better as I read this article from DevConPro naming LiveCode #1 in a survey of Cross-Platform Mobile IDEs, out performing all other competition including Adobe Flash Pro CS5.

Mike Riley’s article opens with a fact that we at RunRev have been confident of for some time:  “smart mobile operating systems are expected to eclipse desktop OSs in prevalence and importance within the next few years.”    Absolutely!   This raises a challenge, of course, for application developers – which platform to develop for, or how master different SDKs for each mobile platform.

“There has to be a better way” Riley declares.

And there is… rather than learning to achieve “Zen-like specialization” (as he puts it) for a raft of different platforms, it is a far easier and more efficient to use a cross platform, cross device IDE that lets you write code will run in any environment.   One of the reasons LiveCode is so popular is because it lets you deploy to multiple platforms from a single code base.

Not only is it easier and more efficient from a development perspective to be cross platform, it’s also essential from a marketing perspective.  App users expect to able to use the tools they like (i.e. apps) on whatever device they happen to have.  Neilson reported recently that 4 of the top 5 apps on each mobile app store are all completely cross platform.  The 5th most popular app for each platform was also available on at least one other platform.  If you want your app to get noticed, you have to develop it for more than just iOS OR Android.    It needs to be both!

With LiveCode Mobile it can be both!    Try it for yourself.

Why is LiveCode #1 Cross Platform Mobile IDE?

  • “Easy learning curve, supported by LiveCode documentation, active forum participation” and informative lessons
  • “Support for native hardware features on both iOS and Android platforms  (eg. Accelerometers, multi-touch displays, GPS)”
  • “Simple syntax” – with LiveCode write your apps  in a simple English-like language that is easy to learn, remember and read back.
  • Creating multi-device apps “is fast and straightforward”
  • “Intuitive, easy-to-use form design tools.”
  • “Useful for both prototyping and end-product delivery.”

LiveCode “delivers a consistent UI to several popular desktop and mobile platforms from the same code base”

Don’t just take my word for it, the independent experts agree:  you need to get into mobile, you need to be cross platform, and LiveCode is the #1 way to get you there.
