You have followed every step possible in order to become an appreneur and for some reason something still hasn’t quite falled into place and you can’t put your finger on what the problem is. Time to be honest with yourselves, are you the reason why your Android app business is failing?
There are many reasons why you may not be handling your Android app business as effectively as you could and this is down to poor management
Poor Management
You may think I have fallen off a tree and hit my head, how can your failure be down to poor management when you are the only employee? What are you going to do discipline yourself or fire yourself? Of course not, but you do need to set yourself the same goals that you would set for your employees (if you had any). You need to ensure that you set yourself clear expectations, deadlines and milestones and you need to stand by them or your business will not succeed. It is so much easier for you to tell yourself, oh, I’ll do that tomorrow, or well, that’s not exactly what I want but it’ll be OK. Don’t go easy on yourself, make sure all these points are written down and stand by them
Poor management is separated into three sections:
1: Clear expectations: Do you really know what you expect of yourself in your role as CEO of an Android app business? How many hours are you expected to work on your business each day, how many days a week? What time is most suitable for you to work on your app business? The questions could go on forever, it is up to you to set out your personal expectations in writing and decide if you can stand by them or not.
2: Deadlines: Deadlines in a way help you keep your business running like clockwork, if you do not set deadlines to tasks then they can run over and drag on causing other tasks to be delayed and in turn could ruin your Android app business without you realising that this has even happened. It may start with something really small like having to email a company regarding their ad on your app, well, if you don’t get the results form that company you can’t insert their ad, then you will have to wait to find a new company to place and ad in this space because they didn’t wait for you and spent their budget elsewhere.
3: Milestones: Have you set yourself clear milestones? Miles stones are points within your journey in which a set task has been completed and this part of the journey is over, at this point you can re-evaluate your plan to ensure that you are heading in the right direction. There are times when you will need to change your original plan and this occurs once one leg of your journey finishes before the next starts. Your first milestone may be to research competitors’ apps. At the the end of the research process you may realise that your original idea for your app business is not suitable and you need to rearrange your plans accordingly, however, you cannot make the decision to rearrange your plans before the research process has been complete. This process continues throughout your app journey, when you create your app, maybe it doesn’t look as impressive as you had imagined it to look, again, you need to evaluate the position you are in before you move forward with publishing your app and marketing.
It is easy to walk through the process of app making without realising that you are in fact making some very simple mistakes that could be stopping your app career being a success. Take control of yourself and be realistic to whether or not you are really working to the rules that you set yourself.
