A few days ago we spoke about the importance of finding the right keyword for your Android app. The difference between organic marketing, social marketing and traditional marketing all ties together with this one little piece of information: a keyword. Earlier this week I wrote about the importance of writing a mean Android app description. Thank you to everyone that got in contact with me to ask more questions. The main question that was brought up was how, as a new Android app maker, could you determine what keywords would best suit your business. Today, I am going to address keywords.
Android app keywords are what ties together your Android app business with the different styles of marketing. Whether you embrace social media marketing, traditional marketing, or rely purely upon organic marketing, your Android app will be classified by its keywords. A keyword can be just one singular word. From that you can create a long-tailed version which is a phrase. The search engines can pick up the direct use of that phrase and its variants.
What is a Keyword?
An Android app keyword is the signpost to your Android app. It is the word, or phrase, that is commonly referred to when people are searching for an Android app such as yours. Think of it this way: How would you guide someone to where you live? You have an address which can be input into a GPS or searched for on a map.
The difference between keywords in Android apps and those used online is that mobile technology is not yet bringing up results for searches based upon content, but is relying upon keywords in the app name and description only. Hence the need to build a strong name and app description.
REMEMBER – search engines are sophisticated enough to know when an app name and description are embedding too many keywords. This will cause your app to be disqualified from an Android app store, or to place low in the search results. Keywords need to appear in a natural manner.
How to I find the right key word?
1: Log on to Google adwords – click here.
2: Type in some words related to your subject.
3: Note down what words/phrases are used the most often.
4: Try a few more times, each time noting down your favorites.
5: Now go back and check the competition level. You want to choose a keyword/phrase that has low competition.
6: Trial and error – If you find the app does not succeed, try changing the name. On average we have found that apps that change their names up to 4 times see an increase of 7 times the amount of downloads.
