A recent Apple press release has stated that the company is accountable for generating and maintaining jobs to 2.4 million people in the Americas, through its own staff and those of all its suppliers.

The Cupertino-based tech giant, which contributes £73b to the economy every year, now contracts 9,000 supply companies across all the 50 states, and those suppliers back 450,000 jobs.

Apple directly employs 90,000 people in the US today and will add 20,000 more by 2023, including many in Seattle. The remaining jobs Apple claims responsibility for comprises of app developers, which it believes to rise to 1.9 million US jobs. This is an increase of 325,000 in the last 30 months, and includes North Carolina adding 15,000 developers, Florida increasing by 30,000 and Pennsylvania having around 26,000 new app creators.

Oklahoma-based Maccor, which makes battery-testing systems, is one such company among 9,000 suppliers for Apple. It was 15 years ago when Maccor started working with Apple and had 60 employees then. And today, that number has doubled to more than 130. In 2018, Maccor’s staff increased by a third and is in the process of appointing more skilled talent.

In July, Apple opened its first app design and development accelerator in Shanghai, China. The accelerator aims to help Apple scale its operation in one of the world’s biggest markets. Apple will hold regular lectures and networking sessions for developers at its new accelerator. All of Apple’s platforms will be covered, including iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, and tvOS.
