Apple passes one million app submission mark

Following news that the Google Play store had broken the 700,000 app mark last month, DeveloperTech asked: “Who do you think will hit the one million mark for apps in its store, Google or Apple?”

Verizon app store to be shut down by March

The Verizon app store, which has been going since 2010, is to begin shutting down in January 2013, it has been announced.

According to a post on the company’s dev portal, the operator will begin the removal of the app store from Android and RIM devices in January, expecting it to be completed by March 27 2013.

Google Play breaks the 700,000 app mark

In a period dominated by Microsoft-based news, Google does not want to be outdone, with Bloomberg reporting that the search giant now has 700,000 apps downloadable for Android in the Play store.

This number correlates similarly to Apple’s App Store, which at the last count was at just over 700,000 apps.

Back in June reports abounded that the Google Play store had cracked 600,000 apps, compared to 650,000 apps for the App Store as Apple announced in the same month.

Only half of app users have paid for their apps, says survey

A new survey from the App Developers’ Alliance has revealed that only half of people who have downloaded apps have ever paid for them.

The survey of 1000 US consumers who own or use at least one device able to run apps, showed that, in the next six months, a third of current app users want to use apps more often, and a third of those who don’t use apps are planning on using them.
