HTML Building for Non-Programmers

This looks like HTM-Hell, but really, you can learn HTML!I’m afraid of programming. There. I said it. But, like you, I want to build great apps. I want to build great apps so much that I’m willing to step a little bit out of my comfort zone to do it.

I’ve written about options like Blogger, WordPress, Posterous, Pinterest, and Tumblr. These are all fantastic platforms to build your content on, but don’t you just want to build something brand new sometimes, not relying on anyone else’s platform?

Maybe you want to have more freedom with your app’s form. Maybe you just want to feel cool.  Maybe you want your app, or parts of it, to be available offline.

If you build an app in HTML code, then whatever is included in that code will be visible to anyone opening the app, regardless of whether or not they have an internet connection on their mobile device at that time!

So How Do I Start Building in HTML? I’m not a Programmer!

There are a number of ways to build in HTML. First, you can use a tool such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver, which have a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor. Just a note, those programs aren’t free, and Dreamweaver carries a very heavy price tag, although you can use it on a monthly subscription for as little as $19/month.

You can use an online freebie like Online-HTML-Editor or HTML.am, too. With those programs, you start a new paragraph by pressing enter and moving to a new line. You create a link by highlighting the desired text and adding the link information with a menu. Even adding pictures is easy with those programs. Since you can also view the source code, it’s a great way to see how your changes appear in the HTML.

If you want to go a little more hardcore with your HTML, you can look at WebMonkey for clear explanations, HTML cheat-sheets, and cut-and-paste HTML code.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone a little. HTML is a great skill.
